Singapore is an economic and vibrant city in Southeast Asia, it is sometimes referred to as the Lion City, Garden City and the Red Dot. Singapore is a financial powerhouse as well as a tourist favourite. With much to see and do in this pulsating city it’s hard to know where to begin; but renting a car will be a good start.

Singapore Mini Guide

How do I get to Singapore?
Direct flights are available from Christchurch and Auckland, however many of the local airports throughout New Zealand including Nelson Airport, offer flights with one or more stops, giving you a range of travel options. Popular airlines include Jetstar and Emirates. Once you have landed in Singapore your rental car can be picked up direct from the airport. Making a quick and convenient transition from the airport to your onward journey.

Travelling Around Singapore
Singapore is one of the more pleasurable cities in Asia to travel around due to its good road networks and well-signed roads. Due to Singapore’s British colonial history, cars drive on the left hand side of the road, making driving in Singapore a familiar and less intimidating experience for drivers from New Zealand.

Eating out in Singapore
Singapore’s cuisine is a mouth-watering mix of tastes and a fusion of cuisine. Discover the fragrant laska or the well-known rendang. Singaporeans delight in food and are proud of their cuisine and on visiting this city, you will too. Restaurants contain a wonderful mix of Malaysian, Chinese and Indian flavours combining to make a truly delicious cuisine.

Staying in Singapore
Singapore is such a eclectic and vibrant city and as such its accommodation is the same. There is accommodation available for all budgets and those looking to spend a little less should try the area of Little India or Arab Street. China town also has a great variation in hotels and guest houses, with the nearby Boat Quay area south of the river being home to many worthwhile places, including more up market hotels.

What Shouldn’t I Miss in Singapore?

  • The Maxwell food centre. Sample the city’s street food by visiting the market and experiencing the array of stalls selling favourites such as Tian Tian Hainanese chicken rice.
  • Explore Singapore’s 21st century botanic garden. The Gardens by the Bay, is a fantastical 101-hectares of tropical monuments.
  • Take your rental car for a visit to the Singapore Zoo. Perfect for families. Amaze at the many interactive attractions and free wandering animals.
  • Take a trek through the jungle without really leaving the city with a day walking through the Southern Ridges; you will discover a series of parks and forest canopy walkways with spectacular views.
