It is often said that the best area for visitors to Sao Paulo is the Vila Madalena region found just 6 kilometres west of Praca da Se. This bohemian area is perfect for back packers and has a trendy hostel scene. There is a lively nightlife scene for those looking for it. With a bigger budget the leafy area of Jardims is pleasant. Situated 5 kilometres south of Centro, it can be a little pricier. Having your own rental car will allow you to venture slightly further from the city and experience the residential areas of Paraiso and Vila Marina, both great places to stay. 

Driving around Sao Paulo:
The airport can be found along the Ayrton Senna or Via Dultra higways and is well signposted. The roads are especially busy with traffic during peak traffic periods, so please exercise caution when driving. Having said that you will find the majority of roads around the city are in good condition and renting your own car is without a doubt the most convenient way to drive around the city.
